Luggage, accessibility and special requirements

Luggage, accessibility and special requirements

Most of what goes wrong at the kerb is a mismatch between what was booked and what turned up — too many bags, a child with no seat, a wheelchair that will not fit. All of it is avoidable by saying so at booking.

Luggage

Every vehicle class lists a luggage capacity alongside its seat count. Treat the seat count as the binding limit and the luggage figure as the realistic one: four adults in a four-seat car leaves very little boot space, whatever the listing says.

  • Standard bag — a normal check-in suitcase, roughly 60×40×25 cm.
  • Cabin bag — counts as half a standard bag.
  • Oversized items — surfboards, bicycles, golf bags, musical instruments — must be declared at booking. They are not refused, but they change which vehicle can take you.

A driver may decline luggage that was not declared and does not safely fit. That is not obstruction: an overloaded boot or a bag on a passenger's lap is a safety problem, and the driver carries the liability for it.

Travelling with children

Children count as passengers for seat-count purposes, whatever their age. A family of two adults and three children needs a vehicle listed for five or more, not a four-seat car.

Child seats. Request one at booking, stating the child's age and approximate weight so the right type is fitted. Availability varies by operator, so book earlier than you otherwise would. If a seat cannot be provided you are told before the journey, not on the day.

Accessibility

Tell us what you need at booking and we will match you to an operator who can meet it.

  • Folding wheelchairs can be carried by most vehicle classes, and by all of the vans. State it at booking so the boot space is reserved.
  • Non-folding and powered wheelchairs need a suitable vehicle, which requires notice — book as far ahead as you can.
  • Assistance dogs travel free and are never refused. They are not pets and do not fall under the pets section below.
  • Help to and from the vehicle, with luggage or walking, can be requested and is provided at no extra charge.

We are candid that accessible-vehicle coverage across Sri Lanka is uneven and better in Colombo than outside it. We would rather tell you that at booking than have a vehicle arrive that cannot carry you.

Pets

Pets are carried at the operator's discretion and must be declared at booking. Small animals in a carrier are usually accepted; larger animals need a suitable vehicle. Where an animal soils or damages a vehicle, cleaning costs may be recovered — see the terms and conditions.

In the vehicle

  • Wear a seat belt where one is fitted.
  • No smoking or vaping in any vehicle on the platform.
  • Food and drink at the driver's discretion; sealed water is always fine.
