Terms and conditions

Terms and conditions

These terms govern your use of Sri Lanka TaxiList. Please read them before you book — booking a journey means you accept them.

1. Who you are contracting with

Sri Lanka TaxiList operates a booking marketplace. We are not a taxi company and we do not own vehicles or employ drivers. When you book, you enter into a contract of carriage with the licensed operator whose quote you accepted. Our contract with you covers the booking service itself: presenting quotes accurately, taking your booking, holding the agreed price and handling your data properly.

This distinction matters and we would rather state it plainly than have you discover it after something goes wrong. The operator is responsible for the journey. We are responsible for the platform, for verifying that the operator was entitled to be listed, and for supporting you if the journey is not delivered as booked.

2. Booking a journey

You give a pickup point, a destination, a date and a time. Operators with a vehicle available price that journey, and you choose from the quotes shown. You see the driver, the vehicle, its class and its registration number before you commit — you are choosing a specific car and a specific person, not joining a queue to be allocated one.

A booking is confirmed when you receive confirmation by email and SMS. Until that confirmation reaches you, no vehicle is reserved.

3. The price

The price quoted at booking is the price you pay. It is calculated from the published rate card — a base fare for the vehicle class plus a per-kilometre rate — and it is fixed at the moment you book.

We do not apply surge pricing. The fare does not rise because it is raining, because it is a public holiday, or because demand is high at that moment. If the journey takes longer than estimated for reasons within the operator's control, that is absorbed by the operator and not added to your bill.

The fare can change only where you change the journey: a different destination, additional stops, waiting time beyond the included allowance, or extra passengers requiring a larger vehicle. Any such change is agreed with you before it is applied. Journeys between 22:00 and 05:00 are quoted at the published night rate, and that is included in the price you are shown — it is never added afterwards.

4. Your responsibilities

  • Give accurate pickup and destination details, and a phone number that reaches you on the day.
  • Be ready at the agreed time. Drivers wait for the included period; beyond that a waiting charge or a no-show may apply.
  • Do not carry anything prohibited by Sri Lankan law.
  • Treat the driver and the vehicle with reasonable care. You are responsible for damage or soiling you cause.
  • Wear a seat belt where one is fitted.

5. The operator's responsibilities

  • Arrive at the agreed place and time with the vehicle and driver shown on your booking.
  • Hold valid insurance, revenue licence and fitness certification throughout.
  • Drive lawfully and take a reasonable route.
  • Carry the luggage stated for the vehicle class.

Where a substitution is unavoidable, you must be told before the journey and the replacement must be of equivalent or higher class at no extra cost. If you are not told, you may cancel without charge.

6. Liability

Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.

Subject to that, our liability for a booking is limited to the value of that booking. We are not liable for indirect losses — a missed flight, a missed connection or a missed appointment — though where a failure is ours we will refund the fare in full and help you pursue the operator. We recommend allowing sensible margin when travelling to an airport.

7. Suspension

We may suspend or remove an account that abuses the service, submits fraudulent bookings, or behaves unlawfully or unsafely toward a driver. We may also remove an operator whose documentation lapses, whose conduct is reported and substantiated, or whose vehicle fails inspection.

8. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The version that applies to your journey is the one published when you booked. Material changes are announced on this portal before they take effect.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Sri Lanka, and the courts of Sri Lanka have jurisdiction.

Getting in touch

Every enquiry, complaint and request under this policy goes through the contact form on the main site. Choose the category that fits — booking, payments, cancellation, additional service, complaint, additional information or other — describe what happened and attach any evidence. That form routes your message to the team that can actually act on it and gives you a record of what you sent.
