Sri Lanka TaxiList operates island-wide, but "island-wide" is not the same as "identical everywhere". This page says plainly where coverage is dense and where it thins out, so you can plan rather than discover it.
Strongest coverage
- Colombo and suburbs — Colombo 1–15, Dehiwala, Mount Lavinia, Rajagiriya, Battaramulla, Nugegoda, Maharagama.
- Bandaranaike International Airport and Negombo — the highest-volume corridor on the platform.
- Kandy and the Colombo–Kandy road.
- Galle and the southern coast — Galle, Unawatuna, Hikkaduwa, Mirissa, Weligama.
In these areas you can expect several quotes across multiple vehicle classes, usually at short notice.
Good coverage, book ahead
- Nuwara Eliya, Ella and the hill country.
- Sigiriya, Dambulla and the cultural triangle.
- Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Trincomalee.
- Arugam Bay and the east coast in season.
Fewer vehicles are based in these areas, so a same-day booking may return one or two quotes rather than a list. A day's notice usually makes the difference between choosing and taking what is available.
Long-distance and one-way
Any point-to-point journey on the island can be booked. Journeys that end far from where the vehicle is based carry the return leg in their pricing — that is why a one-way Colombo to Jaffna costs more than the distance alone suggests. Where you need the vehicle for several days, a multi-day hire is usually cheaper than separate one-way trips.
Overnight and early hours
Journeys between 22:00 and 05:00 are quoted at the published night rate, which is included in the price you are shown. Availability outside Colombo is thinner at these hours; for an early-morning airport run in an outstation area, book the night before rather than on the morning.
If nothing is available
An empty result means no operator with a suitable vehicle was free for that route and time — not that we do not serve the area. Try a wider time window, a different vehicle class, or contact us and we will look for an operator directly.
