Getting to and from Arugam Bay

This is the far side of the island and there is no expressway to it. The route from the airport runs south and then east across the country on ordinary roads, which is why a journey of about 347 kilometres takes the best part of seven and a half hours rather than the four the distance suggests. Most visitors do not come directly: the approach from Ella is 132 kilometres and around three hours, and arriving that way turns one very long day into two reasonable ones.

Arranging a pickup

Accommodation is spread along the bay rather than gathered in a centre, so give the property name and which end of the beach it stands at, not just the town. Season matters here more than anywhere else on the island — the east coast runs May to September, the opposite of the south and west — and outside it many places are closed, so confirm your accommodation is open before booking the transfer to it.
