Getting to and from Haputale
The town sits along a narrow ridge with the land falling away steeply on both sides, and the road up is a genuine climb — switchbacks for the last stretch rather than a steady gradient. Coming from Kandy or Nuwara Eliya the approach is shorter and stays in tea country the whole way; coming direct from Colombo the road passes through Ratnapura first and the climb only really starts in its second half.
Arranging a pickup
The railway line runs along the same ridge as the road, so a hotel given as "near the station" is a genuinely useful landmark here in a way it would not be in a larger town. Mist rolls in most afternoons and can slow the final approach considerably, which is worth allowing for on a pickup timed for later in the day.
Questions about taxis in Haputale
How much is a taxi in Haputale?
From Rs 22,630 in a Mini / Small Car, to Kandy: the lowest fare on the board. Each route below carries its own fixed price, distance and driving time — quoted before you book, with no meter and no surcharge on arrival.
Can I book a taxi from Haputale to Colombo airport?
Yes, and it is one of the routes most often booked from here. Give your flight number when you book and your driver has it. There is no automatic flight tracking yet, so if you are delayed, message your driver on the number in your confirmation. Extended waiting beyond the pickup window is chargeable on a point-to-point transfer, and the terms say by how much.
Are the drivers in Haputale verified?
Licence and vehicle are checked before a driver can quote, and each one has a profile showing their rating, experience and the exact car — including the registration — so you know who is coming before you book.
