Getting to and from Hikkaduwa

The expressway runs inland and Hikkaduwa sits on the coast, so the journey is fast for most of its length and then ordinary for the last stretch after leaving it. Coming from the airport this is one of the more straightforward long transfers on the island. The old coast road remains the alternative and remains slower.

Arranging a pickup

The town is essentially one long road between the railway line and the beach, and the hotels sit along it in a row, so a hotel name and rough position along the strip is enough for any driver. The road narrows through the middle of town and stopping is awkward there, so pickups are often arranged a little to one side of it.
