Getting around

Tuk-tuks are the main transport; Hiriketiya is about 5 minutes by tuk-tuk (roughly 400 LKR quoted) from Dickwella bus station, or a ~15-minute walk, and about 40 minutes from Matara/Weligama stations. Getting to and from Hiriketiya

A single lane drops from the Dikwella road down to the bay and it is the only way in or out by car. It is steep, it is narrow, and there is very little room to turn at the bottom, so most drivers set down at the top rather than take a loaded vehicle to the sand. The rest of the journey is straightforward enough — the expressway does the work as far as Matara and the coast road handles what is left.

Arrange the meeting point at the top of the lane unless the guesthouse has said otherwise. The bay is small enough to walk end to end in a few minutes, so nothing here is far from where a car can actually stop.
