Kitulgala Taxi Service

Getting to and from Kitulgala

The road here follows the Kelani river out of Avissawella, lower and less steep than the climb further on to Hatton and the tea country above it — this is the foothills, not the hill country proper. It is usually treated as a stop on the way up rather than a destination reached and left the same day, which is why journeys here are shorter than the plateau towns further along the same road.

Arranging a pickup

Most visitors are here for the river rather than the town itself, so a pickup point is often a rafting operator or a riverside camp rather than a hotel address — worth naming directly rather than assuming a driver knows which stretch of the bank is meant. The road along the river narrows in places, so a large vehicle takes noticeably longer than a car over the same distance.
