Getting to and from Nilaveli
The coast road north from Trincomalee runs close to the sea the whole way, a short and simple hop compared with the long cross-island approach that gets you to Trincomalee in the first place. Most of that longer journey is on ordinary roads rather than expressway — there is no expressway to the east coast — which is the real reason it takes as long as it does.
Arranging a pickup
Hotels here are spread along a single stretch of beach road rather than clustered around a town centre, so a hotel name carries more than a landmark would. Being a short hop from Trincomalee itself, a journey booked to "Trincomalee" when the hotel is actually in Nilaveli is a common mix-up worth avoiding by naming the beach directly.
Questions about taxis in Nilaveli
How much is a taxi in Nilaveli?
From Rs 1,760 in a Mini / Small Car, to Trincomalee: the lowest fare on the board. Each route below carries its own fixed price, distance and driving time — quoted before you book, with no meter and no surcharge on arrival.
Can I book a taxi from Nilaveli to Colombo airport?
Yes, and it is one of the routes most often booked from here. Give your flight number when you book and your driver has it. There is no automatic flight tracking yet, so if you are delayed, message your driver on the number in your confirmation. Extended waiting beyond the pickup window is chargeable on a point-to-point transfer, and the terms say by how much.
Are the drivers in Nilaveli verified?
Licence and vehicle are checked before a driver can quote, and each one has a profile showing their rating, experience and the exact car — including the registration — so you know who is coming before you book.
