What a SUV is for
Higher off the ground and considerably better suited to the roads people actually stay on — the unsealed tracks to lodges around Sigiriya and Yala, the steeper hill routes, anywhere the surface stops being a priority for whoever maintains it. Also the more comfortable choice on a long day for a family of four.
When it is the wrong choice
It costs more per kilometre than a sedan and is no faster on a good road. If the whole journey is expressway and main road, the extra is buying clearance you will not use.
