Getting to and from Unawatuna

Unawatuna sits a short way round the headland from Galle, and everything arriving here comes through the fort town first. That last stretch is the slow part: the one-way system around the ramparts was laid out for a walled city rather than for coaches, and on a late afternoon it can take longer to clear Galle than the whole expressway run down from Colombo took. The beach road itself narrows to little more than a lane at the bay, so larger vehicles set down at the top and the last part is walked.

Arranging a pickup

Name the hotel and the end of the bay it stands on — the strip is small but it has two distinct halves and drivers know them separately. Anything with luggage is easier arranged from the main road above rather than from the sand.
