Hotel Sigiriya

Hotel Sigiriya sits at the foot of the plain that Sigiriya Rock rises from, close enough that the ancient rock fortress dominates the view from much of the property. It is one of Sri Lanka's eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites and one of the best-preserved examples of ancient urban planning in Asia, with the water gardens at its base considered among the oldest landscaped gardens in the world still in something like their original form.

Grounds and public areas at the hotel favour a low-key, nature-first style over overt luxury signalling, in keeping with the eco-retreat positioning, with a swimming pool and terraces oriented to take advantage of the rock views. The surrounding scrub jungle is also part of the draw for wildlife-minded guests, sitting as it does within the same dry-zone habitat that supports much of the region's elephant and bird population.
