Your transfer to King’s Pavilion
King’s Pavilion is in Hantana, 120 kilometres from Bandaranaike International Airport — about 3 hours 15 minutes in normal traffic.
The quoted distance is measured to Kandy. Hantana, where King’s Pavilion is, is about 3 kilometres south of the centre, and that last stretch is the part of the drive that varies with the hour rather than with the route. The fare is the same for any address in Kandy; a car crossing the city at half past four in the afternoon is not making the same journey as one arriving at dawn.
Day trips from King’s Pavilion
- Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic — about 4 km away in a straight line. Sri Lanka’s most important Buddhist shrine, on the lake in the middle of Kandy. Busiest during the evening puja. Allow 1–2 hours.
- Ambuluwawa Tower — about 15 km away in a straight line. A narrow spiral tower on a hilltop near Gampola, climbed for a 360-degree view over the central hills. The last few metres are not for anyone uneasy with heights. Allow a couple of hours.
- Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage — about 28 km away in a straight line. A state-run herd of orphaned and injured elephants, on the Colombo–Kandy road. Most visitors stop on the way up. Allow 2 hours.
- Knuckles Range — about 32 km away in a straight line. A mountain range of cloud forest, grassland and villages that keeps its own weather. Riverston gives the view without a serious hike. Allow a full day.
- Kitulgala — about 38 km away in a straight line. White water on the Kelani river, and the valley where The Bridge on the River Kwai was filmed. Grade 2 and 3 rapids that run all year. Allow a morning, 3–4 hours.
Onward from Kandy
- Kandy to Ella — 140 km, about 4 hours

How this transfer works
One fixed price for the whole car, not per seat. There is no meter, so the figure you are quoted is the figure the booking honours. Give your flight number and the arrival is tracked, so a delayed landing does not cost you the car.
The return leg from King’s Pavilion is the same journey booked the other way, at the same price, and can be arranged now or later in your stay. Departures want you at Bandaranaike three hours before a long-haul flight, so add the 3 hr 15 min back to that.
