Paradise Road Tintagel Colombo occupies a house in Colombo 7 built in 1932, originally as a doctor's residence before it was bought by Sir Solomon Dias Bandaranaike and became home to his son, S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike, who went on to serve as prime minister of Ceylon. It was on this house's verandah that S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike was shot in 1959; his widow, Sirimavo Bandaranaike, succeeded him the following year to become the world's first female prime minister, a piece of political history the house carries more directly than almost any other building open to paying guests in the country. In 2005, the Bandaranaike family leased the house to Udayshanth Fernando, who converted it into Paradise Road Tintagel Colombo, part of the Paradise Road group of design-led Sri Lankan properties.
