Paradise Road Tintagel Colombo occupies a house in Colombo 7 built in 1932, originally as a doctor's residence before it was bought by Sir Solomon Dias Bandaranaike and became home to his son, S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike, who went on to serve as prime minister of Ceylon. It was on this house's verandah that S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike was shot in 1959; his widow, Sirimavo Bandaranaike, succeeded him the following year to become the world's first female prime minister, a piece of political history the house carries more directly than almost any other building open to paying guests in the country. In 2005, the Bandaranaike family leased the house to Udayshanth Fernando, who converted it into Paradise Road Tintagel Colombo, part of the Paradise Road group of design-led Sri Lankan properties.
That history is not treated as a museum piece; the house now holds just ten air-conditioned suites, each individually decorated rather than following a repeated hotel template, which keeps the sense of staying in a private home rather than a converted institution. The Library, one of the property's better-known rooms, holds around 500 leather-bound books and offers free internet access for guests who want a quiet space to sit rather than a conventional hotel lobby to pass through.
Guest facilities include a pool, gym, steam room and an extensive spa and beauty treatment menu, alongside a restaurant offering both indoor and outdoor dining. Nothing about the amenity list is oversized for the size of the property; it is built for a small number of guests at a time rather than scaled up to compete with the larger hotels nearby, and the house's original rooms and verandah remain recognisable rather than gutted for hotel infrastructure.
Paradise Road, the group behind the hotel, is known in Sri Lanka for running a small number of design-conscious properties and shops that lean on restored or repurposed buildings rather than new construction, and Tintagel is arguably the group's most historically loaded example of that approach, given the house's direct connection to two Sri Lankan prime ministers. The hotel sits in Colombo 7, among the diplomatic and residential streets around Independence Square, which keeps its immediate surroundings quiet despite the house's outsized place in the country's political history.
Tintagel's appeal rests on that combination: a real, documented piece of Sri Lankan political history, still recognisably a family house, now run as one of Colombo's more distinctive small hotels rather than restored into something generic that could sit anywhere.

Questions about this transfer

How long does the transfer to Tintagel Colombo take?
About 51 min in normal traffic. Arrivals at Bandaranaike are busiest in the early morning, when the long-haul flights land together.
Will the driver wait if my flight is late?

One fixed price for the whole car, not per seat. There is no meter, so the figure you are quoted is the figure the booking honours. Give your flight number when you book and your driver has it.
The return leg from Tintagel Colombo is the same journey booked the other way, at the same price, and can be arranged now or later in your stay. Departures want you at Bandaranaike three hours before a long-haul flight, so add the 51 min back to that.
