What a Van is for

The workhorse of Sri Lankan touring. Room for a group and their luggage at the same time, which is the part that matters, and comfortable enough for the long dry-zone runs between the ancient cities. Most multi-day tours with more than four people end up in one of these.

When it is the wrong choice

Its size tells against it in the old towns — Galle fort, central Kandy and the lanes behind the south-coast beaches are awkward, and a driver will often meet you on a main road instead of at the door.
