Getting to and from Weligama
The bay at Weligama is wide, shallow and lined by the old coast road, which carries all the traffic because the expressway gives out well short of it at Matara. That road is busy with fishing lorries at first light and with school traffic through the middle of the morning, and it slows through every town on the way. Arriving from the airport, most of the journey is quick and the last part is not, which is worth allowing for when a flight lands late.
Arranging a pickup
Surf schools and guesthouses run along the beach side of the road and several share a postal address with one another, so a landmark helps more here than a number. The stilt fishing posts are a recognised meeting point and every driver knows where they stand.
Questions about taxis in Weligama
How much is a taxi in Weligama?
From Rs 23,560 in a Mini / Small Car, to Colombo: the lowest fare on the board. Each route below carries its own fixed price, distance and driving time — quoted before you book, with no meter and no surcharge on arrival.
Can I book a taxi from Weligama to Colombo airport?
Yes, and it is one of the routes most often booked from here. Give your flight number when you book and your driver has it. There is no automatic flight tracking yet, so if you are delayed, message your driver on the number in your confirmation. Extended waiting beyond the pickup window is chargeable on a point-to-point transfer, and the terms say by how much.
Are the drivers in Weligama verified?
Licence and vehicle are checked before a driver can quote, and each one has a profile showing their rating, experience and the exact car — including the registration — so you know who is coming before you book.
